bed of roses stencil

Welcome to my crafty blog! There’s a lot going on today, with the launch of some fabulous new additions to ClarityCrafts‘ Art Nouveau collection, plus I’m delighted to have been invited along as Guest Designer for the new sketch challenge at AAA cards. I’ve managed to combine both events with the new ‘bed of roses’ stencil (which comes as a duo with the ‘poppy fields’), although I didn’t take AAA’s option of a baby card and I rotated the sketch. I’m also sharing this with Simply Clean & Simple (their optional theme is ‘outdoors’, which is where roses grow, isn’t it?) and Addicted to CAS for their ‘shapes’ challenge.

I decided to make off areas of the stencil to create this card. I took the outer part of a medium Clarity circle mask, put it on the card and then lined the stencil up over it. I sponged ‘mowed lawn’ Distress Oxide onto the leaf area, brushed ‘kitsch flamingo’ over the rest of the circle and then sponged ‘festive berries’ onto the inner part of the rose.

I then repeated the process three more times, but using one of the smaller rose images

After adding one of the Art Nouveau sentiments, I mounted the card on a layer of ‘Indian Summer’ companion paper and attached it to a 5×7 card blank.

I’d never thought of using masks to isolate areas of stencils before, but love the way this turned out. Thanks again to the AAA Cards team for inviting me along – do hop over to their blog to check out the design team’s inspiration and then come and play along!

  1. Oh fabulous Deborah! These roses were made to be set off in circles and it was a great idea to use just part of the stencil.Thank you for coming to play with us at Addicted to CAS. Vicky x
