Hello crafty friends and welcome to another Monday! Can you believe it’s nearly August already? I’m hoping summer returns soon – after the hottest June on record in the UK, we’ve had a fairly grey and miserable July. So here’s a card with a brighter day to end this month, using the SHAC hot air balloon stamp set from ClarityCrafts. I’ve taken inspiration from a few challenges for this one, starting with the layout from Freshly Made Sketches. I CASE’d Nancy’s card from Just Us Girls (taking the patterned top, the central band and the circle element), and finally picked up the theme from Seize the Birthday – I immediately thought of Jules Verne’s ‘Around the World in Eighty Days’ when I looked at the hot air balloon!

I started with a piece of card trimed to fit a 7×7 card blank and stamped the hot air balloon onto it. I then covered the balloon with the pre-cut mask that comes with the set and brushed ‘mowed lawn’ Distress Oxide across Clarity’s ‘hills’ mask to form the ground, followed by ‘salvaged patina’ across the ‘clouds’ mask. I stamped the trees from the set into place and then removed the mask from the balloon

I used a waterbrush to add more of the ‘mowed lawn’ to the trees, together with a micron pen to fill in the fence. I then dug out my trusty Pergaliner pencils to colour the balloon, adding shading with a grey polychromo pencil on the folds of the balloon and around the outer edge.

I finished with one of the ‘occasions’ sentiments, ran a black Sharpie around the card edges and then attached it to a 5×7 card blank.

I’d intended to get the balloon stamped to look like it was floating above the trees, but it actually looks like it’s just about to take off – a happy accident!
