Clarity craft club lookback – trellis die

Hello there and welcome to my weekly trip back into past issues from Clarity’s Craft Club – today I’m sharing the trellis die from April 2022, which came as part of a set with the pillow box and hearts. I’ve brought it right up to date as well with another outing for the ‘peace – Japanese flowers & butterflies’ stamp set, inspired by the layout at Freshly Made Sketches and the top row of colours from Color Dare (the first time I’ve played along with them)

I started with a piece of Clarity’s ‘Waimea Falls’ companion paper in pale green, trimmed to fit a 6×6 card blank, and cut the trellis die into it. I had to cut it three times in all, to get the pattern to run all the way down the paper but that was fairly easy – after cutting the first time, I lined the die up on the paper by overlapping it with the previous holes, so I knew it was properly aligned. Once cut, I attached it to the card blank.

Next was to stamp the butterfly round onto a piece of white card, then watercolour it with Distress Oxides and a waterbrush – I went with ‘ripe persimmon’, ‘dried marigold’ & ‘bundled sage’ as the closest match I’d got to Color Dare’s chart. Once dry, I cut it out with a circle nested die, glued a smaller circle of scrap card on the back to lift it slightly and attached it to the card front.

One of Clarity’s KISS word stickers and a few Glossies finished it nicely.

I’ve had lots of butterflies fluttering about in my garden this summer, which is lovely. My neighbours have a large buddleia shrub just by the fence (often called a ‘butterfly bush’) so I’m sure I’m reaping the benefit!
