more butterflies!

Welcome to my crafty blog and another outing for ClarityCrafts’ ‘peace Japanese flowers & butterflies’ stamp set – I just love this image! I thought it would work well with the sketch from TGIF challenges and the palette from Creative Colour Challenges – I’ll also be sharing it with Happy Little Stampers for their watercolour challenge.

I started with a partial piece of the ‘Antactica’ paper, which I trimmed to fit a 5×7 card blank and then cut into three segments. I glued them onto a piece of white card, leaving gaps between them and rotating the top and bottom segments to break up the pattern.

I stamped the circular butterfly & flowers image onto a scrap of white card and coloured it with a waterbrush and Distress Oxides in ‘kitsch flamingo’, ‘chipped sapphire’ and ‘evergreen bough’. I managed to blend the blue and pink on the butterfly – the trick with that was to add the blue first and then the pink before it had fully dried, doing one wing at a time. I watered down the ‘chipped sapphire’ to add a light wash to the background as well. Once dry, I cut it out with a nested circle die, mounted it on a scrap piece of card and added it to the card front.

I stamped the individual butterfly twice more, watercoloured them to match the one on the main image, then fussy cut them and added to the card front.

And that was it. I’ll add a sentiment when I come to use it – I haven’t decided where it’s headed yet!

Thanks for dropping in. I’m a bit late posting this today, as I’ve been busy working on some secret squrrel projects – more of those in a few weeks!

  1. Beautiful card. Your color choices for the watercoloring are so perfect for using the background paper you chose. Thanks for joining us at Happy Little Stampers ~ Watercolour Challenge.
