cloudy treescape

Hello there and welcome to Friday (already?!) ClarityCrafts‘s ‘treescape’ image is one of my all-time favourites and the good news is that it’s their design of the week so comes with a very nice 30% off until midnight on Monday! I’ve gone for a bit more of an ethereal feel on this card, thanks to the colours at Color Throwdown and it worked perfectly with the rotated layout at Freshly Made Sketches

I started by stamping the first outline image from the set onto a piece of card that I’d cut to fit a 5×7 card blank, using ‘shadow grey’ Archival ink. I then added the second stamp to colour in the trees, again using the ‘shadow grey’ (I forgot to photograph it at this point!) The third stamp fills in the background – I sponged a little of the ‘shadow grey’ at the base, ‘picked raspberry’ Distress Oxide across the centre and ‘salvaged patina’ at the top. As I’ve said before, when I’m using two or three-way overlay stamps, I use my stamping platform so I can make sure the image is perfectly lined up before I ink it – I’m not very good at doing these with a freehand block!

I cut a mask from an all-over sticky note to cover the treescape, then got out the ‘hills & clouds’ from Clarity’s ‘build a scene’ masks set. I started with the hills across the bottom of the centre panel (adding a strip of low tack tape below it for safety!) and then lightly dragged the ‘shadow grey’ onto the card with a sponge. I then used the clouds maks to create a sky area above the grey using the ‘salvaged patina’, again sponging it on and moving the mask severak times to create the effect of clouds.

After adding one of the ‘occasions sentiments’ in ‘watering can’ Archival ink and attaching it to a 5×7 card blank, it was finished.

Barbara Gray is going to be doing a live session tonight at 7pm (UK time) on Clarity’s Facebook page with this collection of stamps and stencils – more details on the website here
