take time to smell the roses

Hello crafty friends. I’ve been having another play with my June Craft Club goodies from ClarityCrafts – this time it’s the ‘simple rose’ stencil. I took Just Us Girls‘ ‘pastels’ theme for the colours, which worked beautifully with the floral inspiration photo at Inspired by and the central row of pink, encouragement & squares on TicTacToe‘s grid.

I started by taping the stencil onto a square of white card that I’d cut to fit on a 6×6 card blank, and then used Clarity’s ‘spot on sponges’ to dab ‘spun sugar’ and ‘speckled egg’ Distress Oxides through it. Before lifing the stencil, I outlined the design with a micron pen so it had defined edges. I thought the white areas in the stencil design looked a little harsh, so I used the sponges to dab more colour onto the flowers & leaves, filling in the gaps.

I cut a square layer of a co-ordinating companion paper to mount the stencilled card on and then attached the whole piece to the 6×6 card blank (which gives me three squares for TicTacToe’s grid!) The final touch was one of the KISS word stickers.

Thanks for dopping in. Nothing too complaicated on this card – just the way I like it! The rose design reminded me of my lovely limited edition ‘Barts Nurse’ rose, which was developed last year and is only available to members of their League of Nurses. Mine has been in rehab this year as my son failed to water it while I was away travelling!! It’s looking much better and now has a bud on it, so I’ll hopefully have flowers before the summer is over… Instead of mine, here’s the one that’s planted in the square at Barts Hospital in central London

  1. What a soft and pretty card you created using the stencil. I really should do more stenciling myself but get lazy. I hope your rose comes back – they are hardier than we give them credit for so most likely it will be fine.
