As You See It challenge sketch

Hello again, crafty friends! A second card to share with you today, again featuring the new SHAC bauble – Merry Christmas stamp set from ClarityCrafts. I’m loving these versatile sets and this time have used one of the baubles as the star for the new sketch at As You See It challenge (although I did take a bit of a loose interpretation of the layout, I must confess!) I’ve also picked up the bottom row of circle, heat embossing & free from TicTacToe‘s new grid.

I started with Clarity’s vertical stripes box frame stencil, which I attached to a square of white card, masking off the sides so I just had the centre box and stripes showing. I then blended ‘speckled egg’, ‘mermaid lagoon’ and ‘chipped sapphire’ Distress Oxide through the stencil. I gave it a quick blast with my heat gun to make sure the ink was dry before stamping the star bauble in black Versafine Clair ink and heat embossing it with clear powder.

I wanted to make the bauble shimmer, so mixed a little ‘pearl’ Perfect Pearls mica powder with water and used that to paint the stars. Having the image embossed made this easier, as I had an edge to work against.

I used a micron pen to add a string for the bauble, so it wasn’t just floating in mid-air, and used my grey polychromo pencils to add a little shadow around it. I stamped the sentiment twice, ran a black Sharpie around the card edges and attached it to a 6×6 card blank.

Do head over to As You See It challenge and check out the other inspiration from my design team-mates and then come and join in the fun! Our sketch challenge runs until Wednesday 12 July – we’d love to see your cards in our gallery.

  2. I love how all our DT members used a different concept for the vertical element, and yours is about the coolest! What a great idea to stencil it! And a Christmas bauble was the perfect image for the center element, too! Great job!

  3. Fabulous design. I love the stencil you used to get the back element and the addition of the bauble with some shimmer and shine is super.

  4. I love the clever way you’ve given us a striped and shaded vertical element, It works so nicely with the square centre. So linear yet subtle and so the roundness of the baubles is harmonious. But really, Deborah…. Christmas already?!!! 🙂
