butterflies two ways

Welcome to my crafty blog. It’s still too cold here in the UK for butterflies to be making an appearance, so I’ve settled for the ones designed by Hazel Eaton for Julie Hickey Designs instead. I’ve sat them on the ‘circle medley’ stamp to reflect the sketch at Freshly Made Sketches and picked up two colour challenges: Color Throwdown and Creative Colour Challenges. I used watercolouring on both cards and picked up their optional twist of ‘wings’ so am also going to share them with Happy Little Stampers

I started both of these by stamping the ‘circle medley’ in ‘shadown grey’ Archival ink onto a piece of card that I’d trimmed to fit an A6 card blank. For the first one I used Pergaliner watercolour pencils, adding the colour directly to the card in each circle then using a waterbrush to blend the pigment towards to the centre.

I stamped the medium butterfly from the set twice and coloured them in the same way using the lime green & blue pencils. I fussy cut them both and glued them to the card front, then stamped two of the sentiments from Julie’s ‘floral buttons’, which fitted perfectly in the circles.

I took a slightly different approach to the colouring on the second card, using the tones from Creative Colour. I scribbled ink from my Stampin’ Up! Write markers onto my craft mat, picked each colour up in turn with my waterbrush and blended them into the circles, working from the outside in.

I once again stamped two butterflies and this time coloured them in ‘melon mambo’ and ‘mango melody’. The rest of the card was constructed as the first one.

Do you have a favourite one between these two? I like them both, but the first one feels like spring colours and the second looks more summery.
