Well here we are on day 9 of my 12 Days of Clarity, so today it’s the turn of the pocket watch stamp from September’s Craft Club to take centre stage.

I am trying to use up more of the card & paper in my stash and remembered that we’d had a whole session on making backgrounds at last year’s Clarity summer retreat. A quick investigation in my folder and I found this piece using the large rectangle backdrop stamp – and I’d actually written the ink colours on the back! They’re ‘crushed olive’, ‘broken china’ & ‘speckled egg’, which I’d brayered onto the stamp before planting it on the card. I stamped the pocket watch onto it using black Versafine Clair ink.

I cut a mask for the watch, covered it over and then created a landscape using the ‘hills & trees’ masks form Clarity’s new ‘build-a-scene’ set. I blended ‘peeled paint’ Distress Oxide over the masks, adding a little black where I wanted shadow.

I then shaded the watch using a black Pergaliner pencil, stamped the verse at the top of the card (it’s from ‘Barbara’s poetry verses’) and added a few birds with a micron pen. I trimmed the card down to leave a narrow edge around the backgroound, ran a black Sharpie round it and attached it to a 5×7 card blank.

What do you think? I felt the pocket watch picked up the sentiment of this lovely piece of poetry.
