Formula 1 birthday

Hello there. Bit of a sporty theme to today’s card. A friend asked me to make one for her son’s birthday – he’s a big fan of Formula 1 and follows the Mercedes team. I thought the sketch over at Just Add Ink would work well, together with the themes of ‘metallic’ from Seize the Birthday and ‘anything goes with dies’ at Happy Little Stampers

I started by double checking the Mercedes team colours (silver, red, turquoise & black)! I die cut a couple of layering banners in turquoise & white, then attached them to a black 6×6 card blank.

I heat embossed a small piece of card with WOW’s ‘metallic silver’ and die cut a little open top sports car from it. To make it look like an F1 car, I trimmed off the windscreen, then attached a piece of red card to the folded back roof (hopefully it looks like the car’s spoiler now!) and added a narrow strip of turquoise card along the car.

I stamped the chequered flag using a stamp from Clarity’s Craft Club way back in 2013, trimmed it down to size, ran a black Sharpie round the edges and glued a narrow piece of black card to it for the handle. I glued the car to the card front and angled the flag across the bonnet. I also cut the centres of the wheels from a bit of black card and glued those into place (rather fiddly!)

I finished with one of Claritystamp’s word stickers in black.

I think that turned out rather well! Hopefully he’ll like it…

  1. Such a fun & clever way to use the challenge sketch, Deborah. I have a formula 1 fan at home too so nice to see some other themed handmade cards. Thanks for playing along with the sketch challenge at Just Add Ink.
