slugs, snails & puppydog tails… and dinosaurs!

Welcome to my crafty blog. Today’s card is a bit of a blast from the past – on several levels! Obviously dinosaurs are prehistoric, but I’ve used a old retired set from Stampin’ Up!, ‘no bones about it’, and it took me right back to when my eldest son was small and was obsessed with dinosaurs. I think lots of small boys are, but for us any trip out had to include visiting dinosaurs (we spent a lot of time at the National History Museum), and bedtime stories generally involved dinosaur reference books. He could tell you all the Latin names for dinosaurs by the time he went to school!

Just to explain a bit further – I was inspired by this week’s challenge from The Paper Players, where the theme is ‘cards for boys’. I also used the layout from the current sketch over at Fusion card challenge

I started with a piece of the SU ‘forever greenery’ paper, which I trimmed down for an A6 card and then mounted on an A6 mat of dark green card. This is the reverse of one of the sheets – I often forget to look at the other side of the my papers and they’re great for general backgrounds.

I then die cut a luggage tag and embossed it with the ‘tasteful textile’ folder, and popped that on the card front. I took a couple of strips of white card and stamped the sentiment and the footprints on each of them, again in the dark green, before attaching them across the luggage tag.

Next was to stamp the T Rex in a light green and add the skeleton in a darker shade before fussy cutting it out. He then sat on top of the sentiment – I used foam pads for added dimension.

I was going to tie a bow from string for the top of the tag, but didn’t like it so used a grey Glossies instead, to look like a drawing pin.

I don’t seem to make many cards for boys these days, so it was fun revisiting the dinosaurs.

  1. I love this Deborah – dinosaurs are such a great choice for boys and girls alike! Love all the green … although that sentiment always makes me think of Tony The Tiger lol! Thanks for playing along with my ‘Cards for Boys’ challenge over at The Paper Players this week!

  2. Well this made me smile! Such a fun card, I love that you went with the ‘pin’ instead of a bow, I am always wrestling with this. Thanks for joining us at The Fusion Card Challenge. Claire DT
