butterfly flowers

Welcome to my crafty blog. Today’s card uses two Stampin’ Up! sets that are retiring soon when the new catalogue is released – ‘beautiful friendship’ and ‘butterfly gala’. I thought they both deserved an airing on this card inspired by a couple of this week’s challenges. The colours are from CAS Colours & Sketches, and I picked up the theme from Just Us Girls (see if you can spot it…!)

So unsurprisingly I started with a piece of striped paper! I cut it down to fit across the bottom third of a 6×6 card blank

The next step was to stamp my flowers and butterflies. I used Artistry Inks in ‘golden turmeric’ for the flowers – with the large one, I stamped it first having added the ink using a sponge, so it was more subtle, and then added the centres by inking them directly from the pad. The leaves were stamped in ‘avocado’ and I then fussy cut them all out. I used ‘fine wine’ to stamp the butterflies and then coloured them with the ink and a waterbrush before using the matching punch to cut them out.

I then laid them all on the card, to work out the positioning and where the sentiment would best fit.

Once decided, I stamped the sentiment in Archival black, and then attached the flowers and butterflies using a mixture of foam pads and glue.

I struggled with inspiration for this card at first, but once I got started it worked out pretty well. See you tomorrow with my next creation.

  1. I so love this stamp set as you know and will be so sad to see it retire! I love it combined with those bold stripes and the little butterflies too. Thanks for sharing with us over at CAS Colours & Sketches this week!

  2. Great job combining the two challenges. I love what the stripes add to the card and prevent your floral arrangement from floating. Love how you used the colors of our challenge – love the watercolor effect of your butterflies. Great job, thanks for joining us this week at CC&S
