A platinum wedding anniversary!

Welcome to my crafty blog. Today’s card is a bit of a special one – my ‘outlaws’ are celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary! (They’re known as the ‘outlaws’ as I’m not married to their son any more). 70 years is a platinum anniversary, so WOW’s ‘metallic platinum’ embossing powder was the obvious choice for their card. I also took inspiration from this week’s grid over at Tic Tac Toe challenge, picking up the bottom row of flowers, pearls, and my favourite WOW powder shade (the metallic platinum – as regular readers of this little blog will know)

I started with a square of white card, and stamped the floral spray from the new Stampin’ Up! ‘gift of hope’ set in clear ink. I heat embossed it with the metallic platinum powder, and then added the ‘happy’ and ‘anniversary’ from the SU ‘Milestone Moments’ set, also embossed with the platinum powder.

I wanted to mount it on a mat of the same shade, so cut a slightly larger piece of white card. I then used my brayer to roll clear ink along one edge, and added the platinum powder to then heat emboss. I repeated this on the other three sides, so the card was edged. I also embossed a scrap piece of card in the platinum and then die cut the numbers from it. Putting the ink on the card with a brayer, rather than pressing the card on your ink pad, gives a much more even finish – a great tip I got from Marion Emberson of Sugar and Spice Crafts

I then attached the topper onto the metallic card and added it to a 6×6 card blank. I mounted the numbers in the centre of the floral spray using foam pads, and scattered a few small pearls around it to finish.

I dropped their card round today, and I hope they like it. I do know, however, that there’s another card they received that has taken centre place on their mantelpiece – signed by Her Majesty The Queen!

  1. I just saw your Facebook post with the card from HM The Queen and I immediately thought ‘Well I wonder what Deborah’s card was like?’ And now I now 😉 This is beautiful – simple yet so effective and I can see why the platinum powder is a favourite, stunning against the white. Thanks for playing over at TicTacToe too this week!
