polka dot flowers

Welcome to my crafty blog. Today’s card uses another one of the fab stamp and die sets from Julie Hickey Designs – this time the ‘fresh florals’. I love the style of Julie’s stamps, they’re always so well drawn. I’ve used this week’s TicTacToe Challenge grid for my card – I went straight down the left hand side with yellow, polka dots and thanks.

I started by using a Claritystamp stencil and ‘mustard seed’ Distress Oxide to create a partial circle on my card blank. I just wanted to give a hint of yellow to ground the flowers and leaves on the card.

Next step was to stamp one of the flowers in the set onto some yellow spotted paper that I’ve had in my stash for years. I then die cut them out, and did the same with the leaves but using green spotty paper.

I then attached the flowers against the lower edge of the circle using foam pads, and added the leaves on either side. There are a few tiny dot stamps in the set, so I added some of the little circles around the flowers (hopefully not taking the ‘polka dot’ theme too far!).

All it then needed was the sentiment, which is from another of Julie’s stamp sets – ‘positive wishes’.

I really like the yellow on this card – it’s not one of my usual colours but I think is just right for spring. The daffodils are starting to poke through the grass in my garden now, so not long to wait.
