Welcome to my crafty blog. I’ve got something a bit different with today’s card – not my usual style at all. This is my son’s birthday card (it’s OK, he doesn’t read my blog!), and he likes grungy, arty cards with handmade backgrounds. I dug back into my crafting stash for this card and used Stampin’ Up!’s ‘work of art’ stamps, which was the first SU set I ever bought (second hand as well).

I’ve gone with the colours from this week’s Color Throwdown challenge, starting with a piece of cream card. I stamped the long line in ‘seedless preserves’ Distress Ink to frame the opposite corners, and then added a few of the small circles in Archival black. I then filled in around the circles using the small splodges stamp from the SU ‘swirly bird’ set – another retired favourite.

I layered the cream card onto a slightly larger piece of purple card and attached it to an A5 card blank. At that point, I didn’t feel that the pattern really flowed properly aross the card, so I added a few more small circles and splodges

I finished by stamping the sentiment from the ‘work of art’ set onto a scrap of cream card, and die cutting it into a circle, which then mounted onto a larger circle of the purple card before going onto the card front.

This was an easy card to make and you could change the feel of it quite easily just with different colours, so it was less grungy. It’s a good design for a masculine card – I just hope he likes it!
Love it! I’ve had this stamp set in my stash for many years too! Haven’t used it in a while and you’ve inspired me to get it out! I’m sure your son will love this card!
