Sending happy thoughts

Welcome to my crafty blog. The weather here has been so miserable this week that I wanted to make a cheerful card to lift the mood (it hasn’t made the rain go away though!) I love the clean lines on this ‘friendship flower’ stamp and die set from Julie Hickey Designs, and picked up the colours (pink, green & blue) from this week’s challenge at Color Throwdown

To be honest, sorting out the background was probably the longest part of making this card! I had several goes at making a background with blue ink, but wasn’t happy with any of them against the die cut flowers. I was trying to get a sky effect and in the end settled for a simple piece of pale blue paper from Lili of the Valley that’s been in my stash for years, which I cut down to fit on a 5×7 card blank.

I also turned to some old LOTV papers for the flowers, initially cutting the die out of a green patterned paper. I attached that to the front of the card, and then cut the flowers again out of a pink paper from the same pack. All I wanted this time were the inner sections of the flowers, and I pieced those in to the green die cut.

I am a stamper at heart, so I had to get some stamped elements onto the card! I stamped the little tag sentiment onto a scrap bit of the green paper and then cut it out with scissors, before attaching it at the bottom of the flower stem.

Finally, I added a few of the little heart stamps, using Distress Oxide in ‘picked raspberry’.

I’ve just looked at the weather forecast for tomorrow and apparently we’re due to have sleet! I clearly won’t be getting out for a decent walk yet again, so I’ll just have to keep thinking happy thoughts and hope for better days to come.
