Holly and sparkle

Welcome to my crafty blog. I’m back to making Christmas cards, and once again used the design from Freshly Made Sketches (https://freshlymadesketches.blogspot.com/) I was thrilled last week to be one of the top picks in their blog challenge, with my ‘Trimming the Town’ card – here’s a reminder of my design & my badge from FMS

This week’s sketch features triangles, and it took me a bit of time to come up with a design for it. I also used the colour scheme from this week’s Color Throwdown challenge (https://colorthrowdown.blogspot.com/)

After a couple of false starts, I remembered the ‘Christmas frame’ stamp by Julie Hickey. I haven’t used it yet this year, so it was a good time to get it out. I cut a couple of triangles of white card, to fit an A6 card blank, and stamped the top edge of the frame across the long side of the triangles. I used a clear ink to stamp it, and then heat embossed it with WOW embossing powder in ‘Peridot’. It looks gold in the pictures, but it’s actually a beautiful greeny yellow colour. Once stamped, I used alcohol markers to colour in the design, using a beige pen to fill in the background.

I glued the two triangles together and stamped the sentiment from the ‘Christmas frame set.

I decided to emboss the front of the card, using a holly leaves folder I’ve had for ages. Once embossed, I attached the two triangles to the bottom front of the card

In the end, it was quite straightforward once I’d got the design sorted out (as is so often the case!). I also made a second one, using a green embossing powder for the stamp outline, but I decided that I liked the contrast from the ‘peridot’ much better.

  1. Congrats on your Coming Home Card and FMS challenge Princess Badge last week – great card. I’m so happy I came in to your blog today to read your post, as I didn’t realize the decorative strip on your card stock was actually hand stamped, embossed and coloured with alcohol markers. It looked like strips of designer paper in the photo on FMS. Well done. This is a beautiful clean and simple card and a nice technique. .
