Heat emboss resist at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown 26-08

Hello everyone and welcome to this week’s Seasonal Saturday. I dipped back into my stash for a set I haven’t used for some time, the Festive Rounds Poinsettia, ready for our latest challenge at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown. It’s our technique challenge this time round, and Andreja wants to see us using heat emboss resist on our makes.

I decided the infill stamp from the set would work well, so stamped it twice onto a piece of Rainbow River designer card using Versamark clear ink, then heat embossed it with clear powder. Once set, I then sponged ‘black soot’ Distress Oxide over the embossed images, which coloured in the outlines. It as at this point that I realised the one on the left hadn’t stamped as clearly as I’d wanted, so I revised my design to just use one poinsettia.

Having let the ink dry, I gently wiped the embossed design with a damp piece of kitchen towel to clean any residue off it, then cut it out with a nested circle die. I had an offcut of the card in the packet, so trimmed that to fit a 5×5 card blank and cut into it with the next sized die up from the one I’d used to cut out the poinsettia. It was then easy to line up the embossed poinsettia against the diecut border and glue it into place, finishing with an appropriate word sticker.

This is a great technique to use on designer card, especially if you’re less confident with using the infill and outline stamps together. Do come and play along with us at 52 CCT – check out the challenge blog for more inspiration from the rest of the design team. I’m going to share this with another Christmas challenge, picking up the C for Crimson theme at ABC Christmas. And that completes my card making for February! I’ll be back tomorrow with some more new March goodies to kick off the next month!
