Vintage / Mixed Media at Sparkles Challenge 197

Hello there. I’ve got another look for you with the new Say It With Flowers sampler stamp set and the Floral Elements BOW-WOB paper that launched last Monday. Now, our new theme at Sparkles Challenge is Vintage/Mixed Media – I thought a pink & brown colour combination had a vintage feel, with my background print looking like a 50s wallpaper, and pulling a print with a gelli plate is about as close as I get to mixed media!

So, let’s start with the background print. I brayered ‘kitsch flamingo’ and ‘walnut stain’ Distress Oxides onto my 6×6 Gel Press Plate, lightly pressed a sheet of the Floral Elements BOW-WOB onto it and then pulled the print from the gel plate onto a piece of stencil card. I did wish I’d gone a bit darker with the pink on the gel plate, but it is what it is.

I trimmed the stencil card down to 5″ square and stamped one of the sampler images into the centre using ‘potting soil’ Archival ink. These roses look a bit chintzy, I thought, and I highlighted them with ‘rose carmine’ and ‘madder’ Polychromos, plus ‘nougat’ for the leaves.

Having edged my topper with a brown Sharpie, I added a mount of pink Shenandoah companion paper and attached it to a 6×6 card blank.

Come on and play along with us at Sparkles Challenge – we’d love to see your vintage or mixed media inspired creations. I’m also going to share this with Inkspirational, having picked up a few things from their visual prompt board (pink & brown colours and the floral elements) and with Double D, whose theme is ‘vintage – shabby chic’.
