Hello crafty friends. I’ve switched away from Christmas cards today to share my DT card for our new challenge at CAS Colours & Sketches, where I get to host this month! I went with this simple sketch which I think has lots of possibilities (you can flip or rotate it) for some great CAS cards. I’ve gone with a bee theme, as you can see using the Just Butterflies & Bees silhouette framer stamps and the Honeycomb stencil (I am very partial to bees!)

I was very happy to see the theme for Honey Bee Day over at Festive Friday and took black, yellow, bees & honeycomb from their inspo list. Additionally, CAS on Friday have got animals as their current theme and I hope my little bumbles fit the bill (technically, they’re insects!)

I first cut a piece of card to fit a 5×7 card blank and stamped my bees silhouette framer onto it with black Versafine Clair ink (it’s a bit more juicy than Archival for the solid background). I cut a mask for it from Clarity’s blank material, then was able to brush ‘mustard seed’ Distress Ink through the honeycomb stencil across the base of the card. The stencil wasn’t wide enough to go right across the card, so I carefully moved it across to complete the stencilling, doing my best to line it up so the join isn’t too obvious.

I shaded my bees with Pergaliner pencils, adding cream Polychromo shading to their wings together with Wink of Stella to make them shimmer (impossible to photograph!) I added the sentiment from the Just Silhouette Framers Sampler set, ran a black Sharpie around the card edges and attached it to the 5×7 blank.

It’s quite unusual for me to switch the orientation of a landscape sketch to portrait, but it worked for this stamp. Come on over to CAS C&S and join in with us – I’d love to see what you make of my layout.
