multigenerational leaves

Hello friends! Well it’s Sunday evening and the end of another weekend. I’m a bit late posting again – we’ve had a family holiday this week in a fabulous farm cottage down in the midst of the Devon countryside and drove home today. Fortunately it was a very smooth journey, so having unpacked and put everything away I’ve got a bit of time to take a look at another of the designs I was demonstrating at Clarity’s Open Days last weekend, using the Elementree stamps and the new Rub-On Sentiments.

These cards work for a second offering for both Time Out‘s ‘choose two’ challenge (I’ve gone with repeat and bold) and Addicted to Stamps‘ ‘any occasion’.  The right hand one picks up the shades from Color Dare – I added blue to the pink and black.

I started with a 4.25″ square of stencil card and chose one of the Elementree leaf stamps. For this one, I blended ‘uncharted mariner’ and ‘peeled paint’ Distress Oxides onto the stamp using a spot-on sponge. I then stamped the leaf in the centre of the card and then repeated it again to the side without reinking (that’s the second generation). I repeated the exercise until the card was filled with leaves doing my best to get a random pattern.

I thought the white card looked a little stark, so lightly brushed the ‘peeled paint’ in from the edges to soften the background. I used one of the Rub-Ons to add the sentiment in the bottom corner (these are brilliant transfers that look as though the sentiment is printed onto the page). I used a square embedder to emboss a frame onto the front of a 6×6 card blank, added a mount of Antarctica companion paper & attached it to the card front.

This second card uses the same process, but this time with ‘mermaid lagoon’ and ‘picked raspberry’ Distress Oxides. Instead of a mount, I edged the topper with a black Sharpie and a ruler (which gave me a slightly wider edging than just running the Sharpie around the card sides), then once again added a Rub-On Sentiment and attached it to a 6×6 card blank that I’d embossed a frame onto with a square embedder.

Now that I’m home again, I’ve got a bit of work to do to finish off all the toppers I was busy creating at the Open Days! Here’s a few more that I made in different colourways using this same design – every time anyone asked me to demo it I got them to choose the colours, so there are some lovely variations here.

  1. Deborah, Thanks for playing in our Pick Two challenge at Time Out this week! I love your repeated pattern and your bold colors. The leaves look like naturally falling ones in real life. Thanks so much for sharing your card with us!
