CAS Colours & Sketches 556 – a new sketch

Hello friends – I’m back today with our new sketch at CAS Colours & Sketches which runs for the next two weeks. I decided to use another of the SHAC floral panel sets today, this time the Scots pine – love these classic images.

Both Inspire.Create challenges and AAA Birthday have got masculine themes at the moment – I’m always needing to make a few more male cards and the Scots pine is great for them. I’m also sharing this over at Simply Clean & Simple, where their optional twist is green.

I cut a piece of card to fit on an A6 card blank (I don’t have a mini slimline as suggested on the CAS C&S sketch) and stamped the small pine bough frame onto it using ‘library green’ Archival ink. I covered it with the pre-cut mask that comes with the stamps, ran a couple of strips of low tack tape to mask off a panel and brushed ‘evergreen bough’ Distress Oxide across it. I then stamped the large bough image into the panel, again using the ‘library green’ but this time in second generation (ie I stamped it lightly onto copy paper first before stamping onto the card.)

Next was to colour in the main image. I used a green Pergacolour pen for the leaves, then shaded the pine cones with a light brown Pergaliner pencil. To give the cones depth, I used a dark brown Pergacolour pen to fill in the underside of each part of the cone, then filled in the branches as well.

I stamped one of the ‘bijou retro sentiments’ onto a scrap of card, still using the ‘library green’ Archival, trimmed the end at an angle & ran a green Sharpie around it. I also edged the topper with the Sharpie and attached it to the card blank, finishing by sitting the sentiment on at srap strip of card and gluing it into place.

Come on over to CAS Colours & Sketches and join in the fun with our sketch – we’d love to see how you use it!

  1. Love the stencilled border element Deborah and the outline on the pine branch is a great detail too. Gorgeous – you are nailing the mid-year Christmas card making!

  2. I love this – would of course also make a fab Christmas card – never thought of using some of those natural type stamps for masculine birthday (popping it down in my idea book for my masculine challenge!)

  3. Wonderful stamp, and love how you used the different shades of green. This is a super design for a masculine card! Thanks for joining us at Simple Clean & Simple!
