Hello crafty friends and welcome to a bit of a different look today! This is one of the samples I did for the recent release of ‘Jayne’s floral sampler’ stamp set from ClarityCrafts – these small square stamps are just so useful for quick and easy cards. I’m going to be sharing this one with the challenges at Triple B (it’s got both butterflies & a bloom on it) and with Seize the Birthday for their ‘anything goes’ theme.

Now you know I love a bit of masking! I discovered that the second smallest of Clarity’s nested square dies is a perfect fit for all their square sampler stamps, so cut myself a few masks from their blank mask material. I stamped the butterfly & ladybird image onto a small square of stencil card, covered them with one of my masks and then stamped the dahlia image to sit behind them, before colouring them with Pergaliner pencils.

I used a light blue Pergaliner A (watercolour) pencil to add a little shading to the backgrounds of each square, which I could then spread out with a waterbrush. I added the ‘happy birthday’ from ‘Jayne’s Bijou framer’ stamp set, then used a small embedder to emboss the frame. I wanted to add a mount of blue Toscana companion paper, but none of my cut pieces were wide enough – they were all the same width as the stencil card! Necessity being the mother of invention, it dawned on me that I could overlap two pieces onto the back of the card (each being slightly longer) and they would then form the sides of the frame, leaving what looks like a little notch at each corner! I like it!

I embossed another frame onto the front of a 6×6 card blank using a larger embedder and a ball tool, then simply attached the topper in the centre.

I’d definitely going to use this technique for my mount again in future – I’ve got lots of off-cuts I can make use of!

Love how you carried the square theme throughout the card. Your floral looks sparkly and the strips of paper almost look as if they were folded down. I hope that makes sense. Wonderful job and thanks for playing at Seize the Birthday.

Love the small stamped images, and how the butterfly seems to be perching on the flower. Clever use of the blue paper too – I love the cute notches myself! I must say you’ve been pretty innovative on this entire card. The awesome results speak for themselves! Thank you so much for joining us at the Seize the Birthday challenge!
