Hello crafty friends. We’ve got a Fresh Cut Die Bonanza over on the ClarityCrafts webiste this weekend, with some brilliant bargains to be had (I may have already sneaked a cheeky little order in!) Dies don’t only have to be the focal image on a card and I’ve used a border strip here along with a scene that I created with the ‘SHAC funky houses’ stamp set. I based my card on the layout from Freshly Made Sketches, taking the neutral tones from Just Add Ink‘s moodboard and the Christmas theme from Addicted to Stamps

I started with a square of kraft card, cut to fit on a 5×5 card blank, and drew myself a pencil guideline to sit my images on. I then stamped the trees & houses, heat embossing them with WOW’s superfine white powder. I started from the right hand side of the card, stamping and embossing a couple of images at a time. I needed to mask one or two of them to sit trees behind them – to do that I heat embossed the front image, then added the mask and stamped the tree to sit behind. You need to remove the mask before adding the powder, but there will invetibly be a little residue from the adhesive on the card – having scattered the powder where I needed it, I used a fine paintbrush to carefully sweep it off the image I’d already embossed and then heated the new powder.

I used white and brown Pergaliner pencils to shade in the images. I took a scrap piece of card and cut the border die into it, having popped a layer of Stick It thin double sided adhesive on the back of the card before cutting it. I could then just peel the backing off the die cut and attach it to the card front – I ran the whole topper back through my die cutting machine to make sure it was well stuck down! A narrow mount of white and a couple of appropriate ‘occasions sentiments’ in ‘potting soil’ Archival ink finished the topper nicely before adding it to the card front.

These little stamped images are just so cute!

I LOVE this card, Deborah! I have a real preference for Christmas cards with little houses and trees and the die cut strip is a nice touch!
