elephants!

Hello there. Well, I’m still playing with autumnal colours, this time from AAA Colourful, but today’s card heads out to the African savannah for a tropical sunset using the elephants stamp from last month’s Clarity Craft Club, thanks to the theme at The Paper Players. Although it’s not got as much white space as I’d normally have on a CAS card, it’s a single layer (other than the mount and card)

I cut a piece of stencil card to fit a 6×6 card blank, lined the ‘woodland’ stencil up on it with a hinge of low tack tape, then stamped the elephants so their feet sat along the edge of the stencilled area (lift the stencil up to do this!) I’d cut a mask for the elephants, so covered them with that then added a large circle mask for the sun, making sure it sat underneath the branches on the stencil.

I swept ‘walnut stain’, ‘festive berries’ & ‘ripe persimmon’ Distress Oxides across the stencil with Clarity brushes to create the background. Leaving the mask on the elephants, I lifted the circle off and lightly swept a little more of the ‘ripe persimmon’ across the sun (I didn’t add any more ink to my brush). I then removed the elephants’ mask and shaded them in with grey Poloychromo pencils – it’s easy to get the shading on the image, as I just used the darker greys where there were more dots on the image.

I then simply added one of the ‘bijou retro sentiments’, mounted the topper on a piece of companion paper and attached it to a 6×6 card blank, finishing with a little extra shading under the elephants’ feet using a brown Pergaliner pencil..

I’m really taken with this family of elephants – I think it could be great for a new baby (or twins!) card.

  6. Beautiful, Deborah! You are a master at masking. The elephants are shaded to perfection. This is such a powerful design. I am so glad you shared it with The Paper Players this week!

  7. Deborah, what at a beautiful scene you’ve created with the elephants at sunset! Your ink blending gently sets the tone and I think that stencil works so well with the branches against the sky. I can just imagine the elephants just emerging from the bushes. Thank you so much for joining us at The Paper Players!
