Welcome to Friday and a new letter over at Alphabet Challenge! It’s my turn to choose this week and, as it’s now K, I went with kittens and cats (sneaky, eh?) It gave me another excuse to use one of my all-time favourite ClarityCrafts stamp sets – the ‘birdhouse garden’. I just love this hopeful little cat! Along with Alphabet’s theme, I’ve managed to incorporate a few other challenges as well, picking up the sketch from AAA Cards, the stencil theme from Just Us Girls and the colours from AAA Colourful.
I’ve kept this as a one layer card – the first step was to use a square embedder to emboss the frame onto a 6×6 card blank. I switched to the flower shape from Clarity’s ‘simple frames’ A5 stencil, positioning it near the bottom of the card front, masking the other shapes off with sticky notes and then brushing ‘mowed lawn’ Distres Oxide through the aperture. I moved it up (after cleaning the ink off) and added a ‘broken china’ shape, followed by ‘squeezed lemonade’ at the top. Having done that, I added the birdhouse with ‘shadow grey’ Archival ink, followed by the cat in black.
As well as the three main spots in AAA Card’s layout, there were a few other details which I picked up by adding one of the ‘bijou retro sentiments’ and the little bird atop the birdhouse, finishing with a few birds in flight using a micron pen.
I do love a cat-themed card – this little one looks like Void, my son’s black cat who comes to stay when they go away. Come on and share your feline creations with us at Alphabet Challenge – we love to see them in our gallery!
