Welcome to Sunday’s blog and a first run out for a new-to-me set of stamps (‘summer shades’) from ClarityCrafts, paired with their latest Craft Club stamps.

I’ve pulled three current challenges together on this one, taking a lightly loose interpretation of the layout at Sketch Saturday (I hope the team can still see their sketch in there!), the colours from Color Dare and the ‘summertime’ theme from Just Us Girls.

So, my starting point was to cut a piece of card to fit a 5×7 card blank, stamp the shades onto it with black Versafine Clair ink and heat embossed them with clear powder. I then covered them over with the pre-cut mask that comes with the stamp set. I picked up Barbara’s trick for this, as the frame mask is a bit tricky to handle and distorts easily – instead, stick a piece of low tack tape across the mask and then use that to lift it from the backing sheet. That will keep it in shape while you lay it down – result!

Having covered the shades, I added the lens masks too, then used the landscape mask from the set to cover the bottom of the card. I took another straight landscape mask, laid it across the glasses, and brushed ‘dried marigold’ Distress Oxide across it. I removed the masks from the lenses, took my favourite clouds masks and bushed the sky into place with ‘broken china’.

I lifted the outer mask for the frames from the backing sheet, covered the background with it and added the sea into the lenses using the water swirls stamps from the Craft Club set.

Off came all the masks so I could finish with the sentiment. I didn’t want it in one block, to better reflect the sketch, so covered the lower part with masking tape and stamped the top two lines above the frames. I cleaned & dried the stamp well, then repeated the process to add the lower part of the sentiment below.

This little scene made me think of those deep beaches on England’s north-west coast – the tide at Morecambe can go out as far as 12km!

A really cool card Deb. So clever to make the glasses look as if they are reflecting the ocean and sky.

Word Press made me log in, which I should already have been, so I don’t know if it saved my comment or not. Here it is again just in case. This is such a clever design, Deborah, and I love seeing the waves through the glasses. Thanks for sharing your card with us at Just Us Girls.
