speedy spring flowers for As You See It

Well I’m back with a second card today as it’s time for our new challenge at As You See It. The fearsome speed challenge has come round again and it was my turn to choose the theme, so I went with ‘spring flowers’ to give everyone plenty of scope! My mum’s favourite flowers were daffodils, so I couldn’t resist the little spray that comes with the brand new ‘Wales framer’ stamp set from ClarityCrafts that I’ll be launching on Create & Craft TV tomorrow (1pm & 4pm!)

Now, it’s the speed challenge and cards have to be made in 10 minutes or less, so I’ve not got any photos of the process to share (no time to take pics!) The other real challenge for me is getting everything together before I start, with a clear plan – you know I usually make it up as I go along!! Anyway, I managed it for this and here’s a pic of everything ready on my desk…

So, I started the timer on my phone and off I went! I first used the small square embedder to create a frame on the front of a 5×5 card blank, then stamped the spray of daffodils onto it twice with ‘library green’ Archival ink. I stamped a third spray onto a scrap of card and then shaded all three in with Pergaliner pencils. I then fussy cut the additional spray and glued it onto the card front, finishing with the stamps from the ‘essential sentiments’ set, again in the ‘library green’.

Phew! That was intense and I guess you’re wondering how long it took? Well, I just scraped it in within the limit at 9 minutes 57 seconds! Do you think you can beat me? Come on over to AYSI and join in the challenge! And just before you go, here’s a quick pic of the happy daffs in my garden that inspired my card!

  1. What a lovely clean, yet elegant, look. I really like the subtle framing of the flowers and sentiment as it’s a great way to add detail without cluttering the look. You’ve done a real beauty for the speed challenge!

  2. Fussy cutting and colouring are always time eating activities during a speed challenge! You did very well time-wise, considering that! That nice wide frame is a perfect way of focusing the eye on the focal point! Lovely!

  3. You had me at daffodils Deborah – yours are perfect for a clean and simple speed stamping card. I NEED that stamp set though – I’ve never seen one so perfectly Welsh (and believe me, I’ve looked)!! Off to the shops for me!
