Seize the Birthday challenge – splatter

Hello everyone! I’m delighted to have been invited along as the ‘surprise party guest’ with Seize the Birthday for the next two months! I’m kicking off in style with the new optional theme of ‘splatter’ and sharing the birthday card I made for my son, using ClarityCrafts ‘splats and splodges’ stamp set.

I wanted to put large numbers on his card, as it was a landmark birthday, but didn’t havve any stamps and dies so had to think laterally. I found some printable images online that I ran off, then laid Clarity’s mask material over them and cut them out. The number masks went onto a piece of stencil card and I then set about stamping the splats over the card front using a rainbow of colours. I went with Distress Oxides in ‘squeezed lemonade’, ‘carved pumpkin’, ‘festive berries’, ‘picked raspberry’, ‘wilted violet’ and ‘black soot’! I have to say, just doing repeat stamping like this is very therapeutic!

I needed to outline the numbers to provide a contrast, so ran a black Sharpie pen around the edges of the masks before I removed them. I edged the card as well, then attached it to a 7×7 card blank, finishing with one of the sentiments from the recent ‘Just Wings & Wheels’ set.

I’m happy to report that he loved the card – and if you’re wondering how I came to choose these colours, check this out… It’s one of Nick’s own pieces of art work – he works with acrylic paints on canvas. And with these vibrant colours, I’m also going to share this over at Colorful Options for their alternative theme of rainbow.
