U for Under Something at Alphabet Challenge

Welcome to my crafty blog and the new theme of U for Under Something at Alphabet Challenge, which Melanie has challenged us with. Having spent far too long rummaging through my stash looking for inspiration, I settled on one of the ‘wee folk’ stamps from ClarityCrafts – she’s walking under the trees with her dog. The colours are from Color Dare‘s latest challenge – I thought they would look like a summer sunset (or sunrise).

Now you may be wondering why it’s the ‘treescape’ die pictured above and not the stencil? Well, the stencil at 7×7 inches was too large and out of proportion for my little lady, so I decided to make my own one using the die (which is 4 inches square). I’ve got an overflowing box of pieces of scrap white card, so I found a square from a previous project that hadn’t gone to plan and cut the die into it. I attached it to a piece of stencil card and brushed ‘mowed lawn’, ‘picked raspberry’ and ‘blueprint sketch’ Distress Oxides through it. I then cut the stencilled card down with a nested square die (that way I knew the image was nicely central) and stamped my dog walker under the trees with black Archival ink.

I simply ran a black Sharpie around the card edges and attached it to a 6×6 card blank on which I’d already used a square embedder to create a frame. I haven’t added a sentiment to it yet – I can do that when I know who I’m sending it to.

Now you all know that I can’t bear to waste anything… I took another look at the scrap card I’d used as my stencil and decided that would make a good topper for another card now it had all the ink blended onto it! I used the same square nested die to cut it down and glued it onto a second 6×6 card blank that, once again, I’d embedded a frame into. I love a two-for-one!

  1. Love getting two cards for the price of one like this with a negative. This is really a lovely card with a great scene. Thank you for sharing at Color Dare!
