funky trees for CAS Colours & Sketches

Welcome to my crafty blog and the new challenge at CAS Colours & Sketches, where I’m guest designer for the next few months. This time round we have a sketch for you, using a slimline (UK DL size) card. I’ve gone with these funky trees from ClarityCrafts which I think are now retired, taking the colours from Color Dare and the autumn themes from Inspire.Create and Simply Clean & Simple.

I started by cutting a piece of card to fit a DL blank and stamped the trees onto it with black Archival ink. I masked off a panel across the centre using low tack tape and brushed Distress Oxides in ‘barn door’, ‘ripe persimmon’ and ‘mustard seed’ across it.

I then used a waterbrush to colour the trees in with the ‘barn door’ Distress Oxide – I like the way the ink reacted with the colour underneath it to give varied tones. To finish, I ran a black Sharpie around the card edges before attaching it to the card blank and added a word sticker.

  2. Wonderful card! It would make a perfect card for a guy without it being too girly. Lovely ink blending and I like how you ran the black sharpie around the edges just enough to give a little contrast. Thank you for sharing at Color Dare!
