I’m back with a second card today, as it’s time for a new theme at As You See It challenge and this one’s a bit special! It’s our 300th challenge and Heather C has invited us to head off on an adventure – and this time there are prizes to be won!

I had to think about this one for a bit, and then I remembered ClarityCrafts’ ‘hot air balloon’ set, which I think picks up the key words of travel & daring (mind you, I wouldn’t be too keen myself as I really struggle with heights!) Fortunately, I was able to stay firmly on the ground while creating this card… I decided to CASE (copy and selectively edit) a card that Barbara Gray did a few years ago with this set, while using the colours from Creative Colour Challenges and the layout from Atlantic Hearts (it’s a bit of a loose interpretation, so I hope the AHSC team will forgive it)

So, onto my card. I started with a piece of ‘Barb’s favourite Toscana’ paper (which had the right tones for Creative Colour’s palette), cut to fit on a 6×6 card blank, and stamped the hot air balloon onto it. I then covered it with the pre-cut mask and added the frame stamp from the set.

I spent a relaxing few minutes colouring in the balloon and the edges of the frame with Pergaliner pencils.

I then used the mask to cover the frame and stamped the little landscape scene to sit below the balloon, then coloured it in with the green pencil.

The finishing touches involved blending a grey pencil around the balloon to create a shadow, adding the sentiment in black, running a Sharpie around the edges of the paper and then attaching it to the card front.

So, where will your adventure take you? There’s more inspiration from my talented team-mates at As You See It – we can’t wait to see what you create! We’ll be choosing 6 winners (one for each design team member) – each winner will be eligible for a prize from Stampin’ Up! or ClarityCrafts. Come on and play!

Deborah, this was the perfect image for adventure, and I love how you created the background. It gives the card a very “airy” feel! The frame stamp is perfect with that “quilted” look to it that mimics the look of many hot air balloons. Beautiful card!
