Spring favourites for As You See It challenge

Well I’m back with a second card today, this time for the new challenge at As You See It. It’s my turn to choose the theme and I’d like you to fill in the blank with your favourite thing about spring (which is hopefully only just round the corner here in the UK)

You don’t need to be a genius to work out that I’ve gone with daffodils! They were my mum’s favourite flowers so always make me think of her, plus Mother’s Day will be celebrated here in March (on the third Sunday in Lent). I pulled out Stampin’ Up!’s ‘daffodil daydream’ set for the first time this year, and paired the sketch from Hand Stamped Sentiments with the colours from Creative Colour Challenges

I started with the background, mounting SU’s ‘so saffron’ designer paper onto co-ordinating card and then attaching it to a 5×7 card blank.

I stamped the two daffodil sprays from the set using ‘pebble beach’ Archival ink (the nearest I’ve got to SU’s ‘sahara sand’). I used a waterbrush to colour them with ‘so saffron’ and ‘poppy parade’ (in the absence of any ‘cherry cobbler’), using ‘pumice stone’ Distress Oxide for the leaves. Once dry, I die cut them and glued them together, trimming the bottom off the stems with the single daffodil. I popped a bit of scrap card on the back to lift them slightly and attached them to the card front.

I stamped the butterfly, coloured it with the ‘poppy parade’ marker then die cut it and glued to the card front. I stamped the sentiment in ‘poppy parade’ as well, cut it with an oval die and added that to reflect the circle on the sketch. A few red resin dots completed things.

So, what’s your favourite thing about spring? There’s so much to choose from, but don’t forget to check out my design team-mates’ creations over on our blog and then come and share your faves with us.

  3. I love the deepened colour at the center of your daffodils, using the Poppy Parade! The background paper really works with this combo! Daffodils really do usher in spring don’t they?

  4. So we were properly in the same zone this week Deborah – but I love how the same set can look so different! The addition of the hint of red really brings out the warmth of the yellows and makes your daffodils shine!
