Hello crafty friends – today I’m sharing a birthday card using Julie Hickey’s ‘weathered wood’ designer paper and one of her sentiment circle stamps. I took the layout from the sketch over at As You See It, together with a couple of elements from Just Add Ink‘s ‘choose two’ theme (circle and twine)
I started with a piece of the ‘weathered wood’ in a purple tone and cut it to fit an A6 card blank. I then cut it in two on the diagonal. As they’re double sided papers, my plan was to reverse one of the triangles to give a contrast. Once cut, I realised the slight flaw in this plan, as turning one piece over changed the angle of the diagonal! I had to use a second piece and then cut the diagonal the opposite way so that it would work when I flipped it. (and that now gives me two other pieces for a second card!). Once sorted I glued the two pieces onto the card blank.
I then stamped the ‘happy birthday’ sentiment circle using ‘shaded lilac’ Distress Oxide and die cut it. I blended a little more of the lilac ink around the edge with a brush and mounted it onto a larger white circle before attaching it to the card front.
I cut three lengths of grey twine and tied them into a bow, which I glued onto the circle. The final touch was a few purple Glossies stars.
Thanks for dropping in. I’ve had a fab day out London today with a friend (we went to see ‘Jersey Boys’), so I’m planning a quiet evening – although I have got more triangular paper pieces left to make another card!
