N for ‘no layers’

Welcome to my crafty blog. We’ve got a new theme over at The Alphabet Challenge – we’re now up to the letter N and Veronika has challenged us to make cards with ‘no layers’.

I often struggle a bit with one layer cards – although I don’t use lots of embellishments, I do like to frame images with mounts, etc, so this one has pushed me a bit. I went back to one of my favourite stamp sets (Claritystamp’s floral spray) so I haven’t gone too far out of my comfort zone! I started by stamping the flowers in black Archival ink on a 6×6 card blank.

I used the infill stamps from the set to colour the flowers with ‘festive berries’ Distress Oxide and the leaves with ‘mowed lawn. I also added colour to the small leaves & flowers using the inks and a Pergamano blending nib. I then used a blending brush and ‘broken china’ to add the effect of sky around the flowers.

The final touch was the sentiment – this one is from ‘Barbara’s months & numbers’ set, also by Claritystamp.

Thanks for dropping in. Come and join us at Alphabet Challenge – we’d love to see your ‘no layer’ cards. In the meantime, I’m also going to share this one at CAS Colours and Sketches as I used their current colour palette.

  1. How beautiful this is Deborah! I love the way that you used the colours to produce a soft look with these flowers and the ink blended sky. Thank you for playing with my colours at CAS Colours and Sketches this week! Vicky x

  2. I love the floral stamp you used for your birthday card, and you’ve done such a great job with the no-layers task! I’ll usually frame my pictures, too, so it was a bit of a struggle for me to comply to my own theme. It’s interesting to think how many ideas you have when you set on a challenge task, but once you start creating you realize that sticking to your own rules isn’t as easy as you thought. I’m glad to see you’ve mastered the task beautifully, and I’m sure your creation will brighten somebody’s day.

    Hugs, Veronika
