happy stripes

Welcome to my crafty blog and another card using the versatile ‘birthday background’ stamp from Julie Hickey. As I said yesterday, I’ve got a few blog challenges to catch up with after my little break and this card ticks the boxes for two more of them. I took the layout from this week’s Global Design Project and teamed it with the red, white and blue stripes from Just Us Girls

I started by blending ‘festive berries’ and ‘chipped sapphire’ Distress Oxides onto a piece of smooth white card. Once dry, I stamped it with the ‘birthday background’ in WOW clear ink and heat embossed using bright white super fine powder. I had to do this twice, as the stamp is in portrait format and I wanted a card in landscape orientation.

I then cut the card into strips and mounted then onto a piece of backing card before attaching them to a 5×7 card blank.

I die cut ‘happy’ using Julie’s alphabet dies and glued the letters onto the card front.

The final step was to stamp ‘birthday wishes’ from Julie’s ‘mandala’ set in chipped sapphire onto a spare piece of white card and trim it down. That then sat neatly under the diecut letters, on foam pads for extra dimension.

This feels like an appropriately patriotic card to be celebrating Team GB in the Olympics at the moment. We’re currently sitting 6th in the medals table, with the prospect of more to come…! It’s all very exciting!
