comfort!

Welcome to my crafty blog. I’m back with my second post today, and it’s my second die cut card this week as well! These are such great little dies from Claritystamp – they’re called ‘quarterettes’ as they come in a set of 4 and are each 1/4 of the size of Clarity’s regular dies.

I knew I had to use this die (called ‘cats on a comfy chair’) when I saw the theme over at CASology. The layout is taken from this week’s sketch at Freshly Made Sketches, although I took the liberty of flipping the design on the diagonal (I thought the cats would look a bit odd sitting at the top of the card…)

It won’t surprise you to know that I started by cutting the die into a piece of black card, making sure I had enough room to be able to trim a border around it. Now I’ve used this die a few times before, but I have to admit that this is the first time I’ve noticed the little cat sitting in the corner!

I then took a piece of Clarity’s ‘Waimea Falls’ designer card, and trimmed it down to fit on an A6 card blank. I used a square nested die to trim a piece out to fit behind the cats – so I got it in the right place, I sat the die cut on the card first, and then added a couple of pencil marks in the corners before taping the die into place. I wanted to make sure that the chair was mostly blue, with the peach showing through the window.

Next step was to attach a piece of black ribbon to run across the designer card, picking up the stripe in the layout. I attached it to the card with some red tape, and then popped the whole thing onto a black card blank.

I then attached the back die cut onto the square of designer card, and trimmed it down to a narrow border. Before sticking it to the card, I stamped ‘home’ down the side of the square using Clarity’s ‘letterbox alphabet’ stamps & black Archival ink (and my stamping platform to make sure the letters were straight!). Once done, the topper went onto the card using foam pads, and I added a few peach Glossies to finish.

I’ve got a friend who’s moving house soon, so this will be a perfect card for her. I also thought adding ‘home’ fitted with CASology’s theme as well – we all love home comforts!
