Delightful daisy

Welcome to my crafty blog. I’ve definitely managed to move away from my recent palette of blues & pinks with this card, using the new ‘Delightful Daisy’ stamp and die set from Julie Hickey Designs. I did a brilliant Facebook class with Julie last Friday using this and her other new daisy stamps, but for this card have taken inspiration from two blog challenges: TGIF for the colours and Tic Tac Toe for the elements (I went diagonally down from the top left – pink/grey, circle/oval and splatters)

I started by stamping the large daisy in Archival ‘watering can’. I coloured it using Artistry inks (Blushing Rose and Blaze) and a waterbrush – I first added a layer of the ‘blushing rose’, then added the ‘blaze’ into the centre and inner part of the petals, and finally went over the inner petals with more of the ‘blushing rose’ to blend them together. Once coloured, I cut it out with the co-ordinating die, plus two copies of the leaf in the set in grey.

Next step was to create the background. I cut a piece of smooth white card to fit a 6×6 card blank and started by stamping the ‘daisy definition’ stamp a few times in the ‘blushing rose’. I then added the ‘splatters’ from Stampin’ Up’s ‘swirly bird’ set in the ‘blaze’, before blending more of the ‘blushing rose’ around the outside of the card with a brush. I wanted a little more definition around the edge while keeping it quite soft, so brushed a little of the ‘watering can’ just along the sides of the card.

As you can see in the photo, I managed to get a smudge as well as splatters in the ‘blaze’, but I decided I could live with that by making sure my daisy covered it! So, I attached the background to the card blank, and then added the daisy using a foam pad, and the two leaves with glue.

It’s been snowing here all day, so the sensible thing to do was to stay at home and craft! I was really pleased with how this turned out, especially as I would not normally use these colours. I’m sure I’ll be using these daisy sets a lot more in future.
